When I left the corporate world 5 years ago to start my own career consultancy, I knew that starting a small business had a very high failure rate. So when I branched off to work for myself, I invested quite a bit of time soliciting advice on the best strategies to make sure I would succeed. I listened to podcasts, talked with business owners much further along than I, and connected with advisors who shared a lot of advice, some good, some bad.

Although I can’t say I’ve completely cracked the code on how to succeed as a small business owner, I do know that five years in, my business is thriving, I’m loving my work, and I’ve never been happier with the balance between my professional and personal life.
