Dealing with rejection has been one of the toughest things to manage in my career. Rejection can come in so many different forms. Prospective employers not getting back to me. Reporters not responding to my pitches. Speaking gigs falling through. Or people just never replying to my outreach, even if I’m asking for something as simple as a quick chat.

As a solopreneur, I’ve found dealing with rejection to be an especially important habit to maintain. Because of someone who is self-employed, rejection hits me harder than it used to when I was working full-time in the corporate world. Because people aren’t saying no to the company I represent for the brand that work for. Instead, they’re saying no to me.

Rejection can be demoralizing and tiring to deal with, especially when it comes back-to-back, so being able to manage rejection is an important part of me staying on track with my goals as a business.

I was recently asked to share my strategies of how I manage and overcome rejection in this article, My Battle-Tested Secret To Handling Career Rejection.

In the article, I talk about:

  • The importance of staying committed without being too attached to the outcomes
  • How I maintain a productive mindset in the face of rejection
  • My specific strategies to keep myself moving forward even when I’m feeling demotivated

Everyone I know who’s been successful has had to overcome rejection along the way, so I hope these strategies can help you stay positive and productive during those challenging phases that will inevitably come up in your career.
